Post Decal Help

I'm building he Sprint ARF that I won in the club raffel and used window cleaner (not windex) to install the decales. When everything was dry, the window cleaner left white spots under the decal. I've use Windex in the past and never had this happen before.

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to remove the decales and then use something else for the reinstallation? I don't want to leve them the way they are because they look like crap. I also think it would be a pain to try and find new decals.

Hi Kim,
I'm assuming that these decals are pressure-sensitive type.  You could try to delaminate them with rubbing alcohol (probably the 100% strength) and see if you can work an edge of the decal loose and let the alcohol work in under the decal.  If that doesn't work, my next suggestion would be to take C.A. accelerator (ZipKicker from Pacer) and try to work that under the decal.  Of course, the latter solvent might damage the decal but so far the many substrates that I have tried it on have not suffered any damage.  If you are successful in removing the decal, let it dry off the solvent and it might still be able to be stuck to your covering again.  Good luck!

Thanks for responding Bob. These are the decals that come with a kit and the writing in on a clear background. I've installed them in the past by spraying the model and decal with Windex, applying the decal and then squeezing the liquid out from under the decal.

You could also try Microscale "Micro Set", it's a decal setting solution that softens decals and improves adhesion.  It's also supposed to work as a remover.  Microscale also sells "Micro Sol" which really softens the decals so that they conform better to irregular surfaces.  It gives them more of a painted-on look.    Micro Sol makes the decals even softer than Micro Set.   They come in little bottles that sell for around $3.00.
